The Uniontown Fire Department is the FIRST fire department in the county to have the North Tech Systems Hybrid Safery Kit.  The kit was given to us by Scott Martin of North Tech Systems.  It will be on  Rescue 40 for use at vehicle accidents involving hybrid vehicles.

North Tech Systems, LLC (NTS) is a Uniontown Basied company which manufactures a Hybrid Safety Kit for Emergency Responders to increase their level of safety when working on Hybrid Electric Vehicles (HEV's) involved in an accident.  HEV's are desigened to be inherently safe when involved in an accident, the Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEM) of the vehicles have designed the HEV's with the highest level of safety built in to the vehicles.

North Tech Systems has developed the Hybrid Safety Kit to allow Emergency Responders to meet Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) high-voltage regualtions.  OSHA high-voltage regulations state that any person working within one foot of 50 volts or more is required to use 1000 volt certified protective equipment and California regulations state that any person working within one foot of 50 volts or more is required to use 1000 volt certified protective equipment.

The Hybrid Safety Kit is specifically desigened for Emergency Responders to meet OSHA and California high-voltage regulations.  The Hybrid Safety Kit includes:

             1 - #2 Phillips 1000 volt Screwdriver

             1 - 10mm 1000 volt Socket
             1 - NiMH battery electrolyte solution bottle
             1 - Package NiMH electrolyte solution test strips
             1 - Fuse Puller
             1 - Storm Case Storage Container
